Don't bet on economic forecasting does not mean that we should not bet on economists.
Justin Wolfers is a professor of business and public policy at Wharton and was guest on the American Public Media radio program Marketplace Tuesday the 21st. His commentary on the deplorable state of the economic forecasting “Don’t bet on economic forecasting” I think is fair.
My concern is that in a world in which jokes such as you could lay all the economists in the world end to end and never reach a conclusion are so common what economists do well risks being lost in the shuffle. You may not need an economist to tell you which way the wind is going to blow. However, if you want to understand why the wind is blowing and what to do to better shelter yourself from it you just might need one.
